Ingredients
- 2 oz bourbon
- ¾ oz grapefruit juice
- ½ oz honey syrup
Method: Shaken • Glass: Coupe • Garnish: Grapefruit Twist
Instructions
- Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker and fill with ice
- Shake ingredients to chill and mix
- Strain into a coupe glass
- Garnish with a grapefruit twist

- Alternate glassware: Nick & Nora glass or martini glass
The Brown Derby was the cocktail that first made me reconsider whiskey. After I had all but written it off, my wife came home raving about one she’d had at lunch, and I was surprised to learn it was bourbon-based. Smooth, citrus-forward and restrained, it was the first time I realized whiskey cocktails could be elegant and enjoyable rather than harsh or punishing.
